'Born to Run' Ultrarunner Died of Heart Disease, Autopsy Reveals

Micah True, 58, the central character in the Christopher McDougall book, died of heart disease, reports Reuters.

Autopsy results reveal that ultramarathon runner Micah True, featured in Christopher McDougall's best-selling book Born to Run, died from heart disease, said a report from Reuters. True was found dead on March 31 after leaving days earlier on a 12-mile run last March in the rugged wilderness of southwestern New Mexico.

True, 58, was found to have idiopathic cardiomyopathy, heart disease with an unknown cause, the state's Office of the Medical Investigator found, the report said.

Reuters reports that the coroner found numerous abrasions on True's extremities but no sign of internal injuries, though the left side of his heart was found to be enlarged. Chemical tests revealed the presence of caffeine and mild dehydration but that the manner of death was "natural," according to Reuters.
