[VIDEO] 10-Year-Old Author's Second Book Takes Readers on Magical 'Journey'

Dani Patiz, the self-published author who wrote 'Genella's Big Mistake' at the age of eight, has written a sequel and is signing her book at Sumac Elementary's Scholastic Book Fair.

At the tender age of eight, , which she debuted at 's fall 2010

Undaunted by the time and effort that goes into authorship as well as self-publishing, Dani, now 10, has written a sequel, Tailior's Journey, currently being sold at this week's book fair.

"Writing the first book was so much fun," said Dani. "And the story [for the sequel] just flowed from my head."

For the both books, Dani's mother, Debby Pattiz, acted as editor, overseeing grammar, continuity and meeting personal deadlines.

"The thing that's really amazing to me as a parent is that she spent her weekends, her after-school time and her vacations writing," said Debby.

Dani describes the book as an adventure. According to the back cover:

...Whisked through a portal to a different world, Tailior must transform an evil wizard, escape kidnappers, fulfill an impossible quest, and come to terms with new yet turbulent emotions in order to save the ones he loves."

For the first book, Dani did all of her own illustrations; however, for Tailior's Journey, she enlisted the help of two artist pals, Alexandra East, 10, and Emma Wachsmith, 11.

"I have never really had a talent for art, and over the years I've always been kind of jealous of their talents," said Dani said of her co-illustrators. "I'm really happy I chose them both, because they're so good in different ways."

Already working on a story for her third book, Dani plans to attend next year.

The family does not expect to make a profit on the book but hopes to break even, Debby said, given the additional expenses of self-publishing on Lulu.com. One dollars of the $5.99 cover price will be donated to Sumac Elementary. Dani will be on hand at the book fair to sign copies during lunchtime on Friday.
