Openings & Closings: Pub, Pizza, Playtime and More

OPENING

Taps! is a new gastropub at 18673 Devonshire St. in Northridge. Located in the former site of Hots, the new, darkly painted restaurant, features multiple TVs and giant blackboards announcing the dozens of beers available. The menu, with mostly items in the $10 range, lists burgers, hot dogs, fish, chicken, salads and desserts.

The Anza Hotel at 23627 Calabasas Road in Calabasas has been listed on Foders.com as one of "Southern California's hottest hotel openings."

Ralphs reopened at 21431 Devonshire St. in Chatsworth after a $3 million remodeling. Actually, the grocery never shut down as contractors completed work on the "Bountiful" redesign every night after closing time.

We Rock the Spectrum had its grand opening at 19520 Nordhoff St. in Granada Hills where kids can bounce and glide and indulge in some pizza pie.

Pieology has opened another pizza location at 17943 Chatsworth St., Unit 30A, in Granada Hills. The eatery specializes in making custom pies. A Pieology also opened in Northridge in June. 

California Chicken Cafe, known for its rotisserie chicken, salads and wraps, has opened its latest location at 9045 Topanga Canyon Blvd. just outside of Chatsworth.

Chiangsan Thai, a fixture in Valley Village since 1988, reopens after more than two months of remodeling. The restaurant at 5145 Colfax Ave. in North Hollywood, is discounting all checks 15 percent during August.

CLOSING

Kind Kreme, in the mini-mall where Good Neighbor Diner is located at 3701 Cahuenga Blvd., Studio City, is closed. It was the first all-vegan ice cream parlor to open in Los Angeles. 

IN TRANSITION

Smart & Final will be moving into the former Albertsons site at 18555 Devonshire St., Northridge. But first there's a bit of remodeling to do. The front of the supermarket has been torn out and the interior gutted.

Ombra Restaurant at 3737 Cahuenga Blvd., Studio City, is closing and will reopen as Spitz, with European street food and craft beer.

Mr. Cecil's California Ribs has new owners seeking a renewed liquor license from the City Planning Department for the restaurant at 13625 W. Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.

Islands Restaurant opening at 14141 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, is applying for a permit to post a sign of about 55 square feet.
