More Than A Good Sub

Italia Deli is known for it's amazing sandwiches, but they offer a whole lot more.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Agoura Hills Patch picks a great restaurant either in a town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

Overview: When it comes to finding a good sandwich in town, there's one place I always head to: Italia Deli. Even though there's typically a line out the door (I guess I'm not the only one that loves this place), it's worth the wait. When you enjoy your sub on a crispy Italian hard roll or a soft roll, you are guaranteed to be pleased. Sitting outside on a warm summer day with a mound of cold cuts is my idea of perfect. However, Italia Deli offers a lot more to offer.

Drinks & Sides: The deli is fully stocked with drinks and chips. From sodas and ice tea to flavored waters, there is something for everyone. They also have quite an assortment of chips and other snacks from which to choose.

Salads: When you are craving a big and fresh salad, this is the place to come. They have plenty ready to-go or will make one on the spot for you. The Pear, Gorgonzola & Candied Walnut Salad ($6.99) is my favorite, served with a creamy balsamic dressing. The Antipasto Salad ($6.99) is an Italian classic with salami, mortadella, a bevy of vegetables topped with house Italian dressing. Keep it simple with a Greek ($6.99) or Caesar ($5.99) salad. Any salad can have Chicken Salad ($1.50), Albacore Tuna ($1.50), Turkey ($1.50) or Egg Salad ($1.50) added on top.

Cold Sandwiches: All sandwiches at Italia Deli come on a hard or soft roll, small (8 inches) or large (12 inches.) They include mayo, mustard, Italian dressing. Enjoy simple classics like a Turkey & Cheese ($6.99), Ham & Cheese ($6.99), Capicolla & Cheese ($6.99) or a Roast Beef ($6.99). Branch out a little bit by trying their famous Italian Cold Cut ($6.99) filled with mortadella and two different kinds of salami. For vegetarians, try the Veggie & Cheese ($6.99) with mushrooms and artichokes, the Caprese with fresh mozzarella ($6.99) or the Egg Salad ($6.99). Other customer favorites include the Chicken Salad ($6.99), Albacore Tuna ($6.99) and Dry Salami & Cheese ($6.99) sandwich. Italia Deli also serves Board's Head Brand sandwiches like Cracker Pepper Turkey & Cheese ($7.49) or Blazin Buffalo Chicken & Cheese ($7.49). There are more than 35 different cold sandwiches to choose from!

Hot Sandwiches: This is where is gets really good. My personal favorite is their Meatball ($6.99) sub with grated Romano cheese on top. Need I say more? You cannot go wrong with the Roast Beef Au Jus ($6.99) or Pastrami ($6.99) with mustard and pickles. If you are a fan of eggplant, you must try the Eggplant Parmigiana ($7.49) sub with marinara sauce, mozzarella and Romano cheese. The Corned Beef ($7.49) is another crowed-pleaser with mustard and pickles. An overall favorite? The Italian Style Roast Beef ($6.99) with homemade au jus and tomato-meat sauce.

Entrees: Who knew Italia Deli also had pasta? Ok, I did, but I'm now sharing with you! All single serving pastas come with two pieces of garlic bread. Enjoy their delicious Baked Lasagna ($7.99), meat or meatless, with spinach. Their classic Spaghetti with Meatballs ($6.99) is delicious with grated Romano on top. The Beef or Cheese Ravioli ($8.99) is amazing, topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella and Romano cheese. I love pesto and their Spaghetti with Pesto ($6.99) is delicious, as is their Eggplant Parmigiana ($8.99) with fried eggplant. Make it a family night with a family-style portion of Spaghetti & Meatballs ($19.99) to-go.
