Latest 'Twilight' Saga Breaks Box Office Records
Local resident, actress Kristen Stewart, co-stars in the blockbuster.
The latest "Twilight Saga" movie, currently playing at the Agoura Hills Stadium 8, had an opening weekend for the record books, and is projected to sell $139.5 million worth of tickets, a movie analyst said Sunday.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 earned the fifth-best opening weekend gross of all time, said Paul Dergerabedian, who analyzes box office figures for Hollywood.com.
And looking beyond the United States and Canada, the movie is projected to do $283.5 million in opening day business.
Happy Feet Two opened with a $22 million gate, and third place this weekend was held by Immortals, in its second week of exhibition with a $12.3 million weekend and $53 million two-week total.
Local resident co-stars as Bella to Rob Pattinson's vampire role in the "Twilight" series, and Kellan Lutz starred in last week's top box office film Immortals.
Making up the remaining 10 most-popular movies in the United States and Canada, as estimated by the studios and collated by Hollywood.com, are Jack And Jill ($12 million), Puss In Boots ($10.7 million), ($7 million), ($5.9 million), Very Harold & Kumar 3-D Christmas ($2.9 million), In Time ($1.7 million), and The Descendants ($1.2 million).
