Village Fish Market signed on this week as the newest tenant at the and the owners of the new business say the plan on offering seafood flown in from around the globe.
The market will also include a seafood restaurant and occupy a 5,100-square-foot retail unit adjacent to
Barry Cohen and Gerald Cigliano, two veterans of the fishing industry, are stepping out of retirement to open the business together.
Cohen has owned a few seafood restaurants and fish markets, including Olde Port in Avila Beach, while Cigliano once owned Santa Monica Seafood.
Cohen opened Olde Port 47 years ago and has since passed the family business on to his son. The elder Cohen now resides in Westlake Village.
He said the store is going to offer seafood from differents parts of the world, such as wallaye from Minnesota and whitefish from Lake Superior.
"We're going to have a 35-footlong display case," Cohen said, adding: "If customers see something in the market display that they want, we'll take it out and we'll cook it for them they way they want it cooked."
He said Village Fish Market would open its doors in about five to six months.
