A Little Slice of Heaven

Winner's Pizza has some of the best in town, and lots more!

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Agoura Hills Patchpicks a great restaurant either in a town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

Overview: Don't let the  small, unassuming space of the restaurant keep you from stepping inside to one of my favorite pizza spots. This is a great restaurant to go to if you are looking for something affordable, fast, scrumptious and easy. There is something on the menu for everyone, including great lunch specials. They also offer delivery service.

Drinks: Beer and pizza; what could be better? Winners has a great selection of beers offered in 12-oz, 24-oz, 40-oz, and six packs. Large pie and six pack to go please! Choose from Corona, Heineken, Coors, Budweiser, Tecate, Modelo, Miller and even Smirnoff Ice. For those craving wine with your calzone, they carry a variety of whites and reds, including Sutter, Gallo, Berringer, and Meridian.

Appetizers: My absolute favorite appetizer on the menu are the Potato Wedges ($3.99) with all their cheesy goodness.  And what's a night of pizza without wings? Their Buffalo Wings with a side of ranch are meaty, saucy, and heavenly. They come in 8, 12, and 16 options. Other favorites of mine are their Mozzarella Sticks ($5.99), Zucchini Sticks ($4.99), and the Cheese Bread ($5.99). Dip any of them in some marinara or ranch and you will be good to go.

Salads: Not only do they have great pizza and subs, they also have amazing salads. They come in medium and large, and the portions are huge. You could share them. A carb-lover myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the Pasta Salad ($6.99) and the Chicken Pasta Salad ($6.99). Other popular favorites? The Tuna Salad ($6.99) and Antipasto Salad ($6.99). Sometimes I like a little side salad with my pizza or pasta. Have the Single Salad ($3.99) or Caesar Salad ($6.99).

Sandwiches: Hot or cold they have them all. Go classic Italian with a Pastrami or Salami Sandwich ($6.99), complete with Italian dressing, cheese, onions and more fixings. Enjoy Tuna, Ham, Chicken, or turkey as well. The best part about Winner's (besides the pizza) are their hot sandwiches. The Philly Steak and Cheese ($6.99) is my personal favorite with grilled onions, mushrooms, and provolone cheese. Takes me back to South Street. Another favorite is their Meatball Sub ($6.99) drenched in mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. Try the Chicken Parmigiana or Eggplant Sandwich ($6.99), two classic dishes on a toasted roll.

Pasta: This restaurant is my carb haven. Think of any favorite pasta creation, and they have it. From Baked Ravioli ($9.99) and  Fettucini Alfredo ($9.99) to Baked Ziti ($9.99) and Rigatoni Marinara ($9.99), you won't be lacking in the pasta department. My favorite is their Baked Stuffed Shells ($9.99) filled with warm cheese and sauce. Their Lasagna ($9.99) is meaty and delicious.

Pizza/Calzones: Calzones, aka pockets of cheesy and meaty heaven, can be made to order with any toppings you choose. I love making a meat masterpiece with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, green peppers, and extra cheese. Make any selection you can think of. But on to pizzas! Big slices, lots of sauce, and extra cheese makes me feel like I am on the streets of New York. You can build your own with your favorite toppings, but you can't go wrong with any of their specialties. The Barbecue Chicken ($9.99/small) is a classic topped with chicken, peppers, onions and sweet sauce. Of course, they have a Meat Lovers ($11.99/small) and Hawaiian ($9.99/small) with ham and pineapple. If you are hungry and looking for a filling pizza, go with the Deluxe ($13.99/small) with all the toppings. Winners also has gluten-free pizza.

Desserts: How about ending the evening with some homemade Tiramisu ($3.99)? If you are looking for a really decadent treat, feast on the Chocolate Pizza ($4.99), which can only be summed up in one word...heaven! They also have Cheesecake ($3.99).
