The Largest Auto Recalls in Recent History

With recent news of recalls affecting 3.4 million vehicles from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda due to airbag defects, consumers might be wondering what exactly is going on. A recent report from Reuters highlights recalls affecting millions of vehicles across the world since 2010 including:

  • Toyota Sudden Acceleration – 5.6 million vehicles, January 2010
  • GM Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 – 1.3 million vehicles, March 2010
  • Toyota Brake and Fuel Pumps – 1.66 million vehicles, October 2010
  • Honda and Acura Airbag Defective Deployment – 1.65 million vehicles, 2008 to 2011
  • BMW Battery Cable Cover – 1.3 million vehicles, March 2012
  • Toyota Power Window Switch Fire Hazard – 7.4 million vehicles, October 2012
  • Toyota Prius Steering and Water Pump Hazards – 2.77 million vehicles, November 2012
  • Hyundai and Kia Faulty Switches and Loose Headliners – 1.8 million vehicles, April 2013

Each of these recalls affected millions of vehicle owners across the United States and other countries. While some recalls posed serious risks of injury related accidents,, they all compromise the use, value, or safety of a car in some way.
