The Lowdown: Agoura Hills Dance

Patch has assembled the top three things you wish you knew about Agoura Hills' top-notch dance studio, and just in time for its annual concert.

One of two premiere studios in the city, Agoura Hills Dance was founded in November 1998 by veteran dancer and local resident Betsy Melber. Tucked away in a suite along Cornell Road, Agoura Hills Dance has hosted the likes of Pamela Anderson, Brooke Burke, and Melinda Sullivan, and served as practice space for both Fox and ABC television series alike. Here's that and more facts you never knew about Agoura Hills Dance.

THE STARS ARE OUT IN AGOURA HILLS

Apart from some photos of Pam Anderson on the wall near the entry, one might not know that Agoura Hills Dance has provided rehearsal space to ABC's Dancing With The Stars contestants four years in a row. Before Pam Anderson and her partner-choreographer Damian Whitewood, the studio served as practice space for the likes of Brooke Burke, Jane Seymour, and Kim Kardashian, along with their respective partners.

HOMETOWN TAPPER

Bet you didn't know that current So… You Think You Can Dance finalist Melinda Sullivan trained at Agoura Hills Dance before settling in the spotlight. From "Cats" to "High School Musical," the 22-year-old Thousand Oaks native has a brimming resume these days. But before garnering acclaim, this season's sole tap dancer used to teach with Melber at this very studio.

HIP-HOP VENTRILOQUISM

Even puppets can learn how to dance. Back in 2009, the school provided a location and dancers for the Comedy Central series, The Jeff Dunham Show. In this particular episode, Dunham's puppet Peanut conducts a mock audition to find hip-hop dancers for the show. So look carefully the next time you catch a rerun.

Star 2010 is at 6:30 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum.
