'Psycho' Screening, Discussion at Reyes Adobe

Learn some behind-the-scenes facts about this classic film from the late screenwriter's wife.

The Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council is presenting a special outdoor movie experience with a screening of Hitchcock’s Psycho, the 1960 classic thriller ranked among the greatest films of all time.

Psycho was suspense master Alfred Hitchcock's pet project, based on the 1959 novel by Robert Bloch.

The late screenwriter Joseph Stefano who wrote the film adaptation was an Agoura Hills resident. In addition to being instrumental on the success of Psycho, Stefano was producer of the classic sci-fi television series The Outer Limits.

Guest speaker for the 91301 screening is Marilyn Stefano, wife of the late writer/director/producer. She will share behind-the-scene stories and discuss her husband’s relationship with Hitchcock as well as his portrayal in the recent 2012 movie Hitchcock about Hitchcock and his wife during the making of the film.

Produced on a constrained budget of $800,000, Psycho was shot in black-and-white on a spare set. The unprecedented violence of the shower scene, the early death of the heroine, and the innocent lives extinguished by a disturbed murderer were all hallmarks of Hitchcock and have been copied in many subsequent horror films.
