NBC Passes on Rainn Wilson's 'The Office' Spin-Off

The network passes on 'The Farm,' which was to star Agoura resident Rainn Wilson," said the 'The Hollywood Reporter.'

The NBC network has decided to pass on its Rainn Wilson-focused The Office spinoff The Farm, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, which will air as a back-door pilot of The Office this season, centers on Dwight (Wilson) as a beet farmer running a bed and breakfast inn, said THR.

According to the entertainment website, back-door pilots run as a test-run to help determine if the project will move ahead. In this case, NBC made the decision before the episode even aired, said THR.

"Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show. Had a blast making the pilot - onwards & upwards!" Wilson tweeted Monday.

The Office will wrap its nine-season run this year.

I’m glad to see The Farm not happen, because I’m a fan of The Office. If the show were to make it to TV, Dwight would become less comedic, somewhat quickly. I will, however, feel nostalgic throughout The Office’s final season, so I’m going to save the entirety of it to my DISH Hopper. Having a DVR with plenty of recording space, I never have to worry about picking and choosing which shows to watch, like I have in the past. Now I just need to convince one of my DISH coworkers that Dwight and Jim are one of the best comedic rivalries of all time.
