"June is Bustin' Out All Over"

BROADWAY LOVERS ARE INVITED TO SUMMER SCRATCH CHOIR PERFORMANCE

Singers who love show tunes (and you know who you are!) can join the fun at two summer “scratch” choirs, June 25 and July 23, in Oak Park. Hosted by Los Robles Master Chorale and led by the chorale’s artistic director, Lesley Leighton, the day-long events will culminate in evening performances for the community.

“A scratch choir is a non-auditioned, pick-up chorus that provides an opportunity for singers of all types to come together and make music,” explains Leighton. “Our shows will celebrate the Broadway musical—perfect music for this time of year. In fact, the two Saturdays may feel a bit like Summer Stock—rehearse that day and perform that night!”

Singers can take part in one or both shows. They will rehearse from 10 am to 4:30 pm and then perform at 7:30 pm. “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” on June 25, will feature choral selections from Carousel, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Cats, Show Boat, Camelot, and A Chorus Line. “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” on July 23, will include music from Kiss Me, Kate, Pippin, Oklahoma!, Les Miserables, Brigadoon, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Candide.

Both performances will feature guest soloists, including Leighton herself. Before returning to USC to pursue her doctorate in choral conducting, Leighton had a two-decade career as a professional singer, performing roles with New York City Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Köln Opera, and Glyndebourne.

The singer participation fee is $25 per day, $15 for students with current ID. All music will be provided. Audience tickets for each performance are $15, $10 senior/student with current ID. Both events will be held at The Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.

Singer and audience reservations are now being accepted at 805/990-3006 or 805/526-SING (7464) or at www.losroblemasterchorale.org.

All proceeds will support Los Robles Master Chorale’s efforts to serve Ventura and western Los   Angeles counties with quality performances of choral music, and will help fund the chorale’s community and educational outreach programs, including its annual High School Choral Festival and Choral ership Workshop.
