'Despicable Me 2' Dominates July 4th Weekend Box Office

"Despicable Me 2,'' co-written by Agoura's Cinco Paul, had the "biggest five day
opening for an animated film in North America and the top three day animated
opening in July,'' according to Hollywood.com Box Office, outpacing "The Lone
Ranger'' in weekend estimates.

The animated film brought in an estimated $82,518,065. Outside North America "Despicable Me 2,'' currently playing at the Regency Agoura 8 Theatre, grossed an estimated $88.8 million dollars over the weekend. Its worldwide take is estimated at $293.2 million.

"The Lone Ranger'' was second in its opening weekend, earning an estimated $29,432,000.
 
"The Heat'' was third, bringing in an estimated $25,000,000. in its second weekend of release in North America.

"Monsters University'' earned an estimated $19,590,000., bringing its projected take past $200,000,000. in North America, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.

"World War Z'' was fifth, taking in an estimated $18,200,000.

Rounding out the top 10 are "White House Down'' ($13,500,000.), "Man of Steel'' ($11,415,000.), ``Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain'' ($10,100,000.), "This is the End'' ($5,800,000.) and ``Now You See Me'' ($2,770,000.), according to estimates.

"Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain'' was filmed at a sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden. Hollywood.com Box Office describes its estimated take for the weekend as a "phenomenal result for this modestly budgeted concert movie.''
