The Holiday Weekender: Gingerbread Cookies and Fake Snow

Around town and 30-minutes out, we made a list of activities that will have you singing Christmas carols until Monday.

When it comes to Christmas in Southern California, we might not have snow, but we make up for it with imagination. The festive winter season has arrived in Agoura Hills. This area is bustling like Dr. Seuss's town of Whoville. There are so many things to do, we doubt you will get to them all.

 is holding a Christmas party with snacks and giveaways until 6 p.m. Professional photos will be offered for $10. The indoor playground also happens to be an official location for Toys For Tots, the seasonal toy donation charity. Bring in a new, unwrapped toy and pay only $5 per child.

Thousand Oaks

Through Dec. 21, A Christmas Family Spectacular is on at The Lakes, 2200 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come visit Santa, decorate gingerbread cookies and see an incredible light immersion show. Tickets are $15 for adults. Kids 12 and under are free. 

Moorpark

An American Christmas at the Reagan Library is open through Jan. 2. The winter wonderland features 24 trees decorated to celebrate the defining moments of America's road to greatness, from the Revolutionary Era to today. Regular Museum charges apply: $12 for adults, $6 for youth. Fillmore

If you are up for a bit of a trek, try the North Pole Express, where you ride on a vintage train with storytellers, elves, Santa with cookies and chocolate milk. Wear your pajamas and bring your teddy bears. The event is offered Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets are $29 for adults and $19 for kids ages 2 through 12. Lap babies free. 

Ventura

Have nothing to do this Sunday? Take a drive to Ventura for the city's Ventura Winter Wonderland and Carnival from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The carnival features rides, games, fudge tasting, carolers, ice sculpting, and fake snow every 15 minutes. Even Santa has plans to stop by, and his live reindeer too! Admission is free admission. Rides cost. Call 805-477-0470 for more information.
