Sign Up for the Friendship Walk

This year's fundraising event for children with special needs and their families takes place March 17th.

More than 3,000 people are expected to join in the seventh annual Friendship Walk on Sunday, March 17, 2013. The event is sponsored by the Friendship Circle of Agoura Hills, a non-profit organization which provides programming for children with special needs and their families.

The Friendship Walk is an annual vehicle for volunteers, families and friends of Friendship Circle to show their appreciation and support through an exciting fundraising opportunity. This fun-filled event is also attended by a broad cross-section of people who come together to demonstrate their solidarity and support.

The event begins at 12 p.m. with the opening ceremony at Willow Elementary School followed by a 5K walk that will conclude with a variety of family oriented activities, refreshments and entertainment until 3:30 p.m.

Registration for the walk is free, and every online registered walker receives a free Friendship Walk T-shirt. Registration opens at 11 a.m. at Yerba Buena Elementary School.

Online Registration is encouraged.

Last year's Friendship Walk drew more than 2,000 participants and raised over $167,000. This year's goal is $200,000, which will be used to expand the services and activities that the Friendship Circle offers to more than 200 families throughout Southern California.

The Friendship Circle, a non-profit organization founded in 2003, offers a refreshing approach to helping families of children with special needs. More than 400 volunteers bring the spirit of true friendship and unconditional acceptance to the hundreds of children who participate in over a dozen weekly recreational, social and educational programs, as well as summer and winter camps.

The information we received from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station was that a mentally illRead More patient was removed from the bus Sunday night. No one was harmed, officials said.

John, it was reported on KTLA. You can find it at KTLA.com and do a search of "Agoura HighRead More graffiti."

Thanks for your great perspective on this issue. We should all unplug once in awhile.

I think for the most part, people are mentally drained. Few take the time to sit back relaxRead More anymore. Even when we do have a minute to ourselves, we're constantly bombarded with emails, text messages and status updates. If we unplugged ourselves from our devices, we might find the serenity we all so desperately need. Turn your phone off, take a hike. Find a big tree next to a creek and sit under the shade. Enjoy nature. Listen to the sound of the water, the birds and the breeze as it moves through the brush. When you get back to nature, if only for a short time, you'll leave with a clear mind and feel revitalized. You're right---technology was supposed to make our lives more simple. Instead, it fuels the attention deficit disorder as our brain becomes a hashtag with a constant barrage of (often useless) news and updates. Although I'm young, I'd give anything to go back to the days where calling someone often led to a wild goose chase of finding an available payphone and spare change to make the call.

If you can't talk politics with friends without being able to agree to disagree or even end upRead More losing them as friends then they were not the "friends" you thought they were anyway.

It's not about moving forward, it's about saving your breath! That's the whole problem; too muchRead More talk and not enough action! You gonna eat that fish or just hold it up in the air?

then again, if you only speak with people who agree with you, how do you ever move forward? aren'tRead More you just "spinning your wheels" staying in the same spot never moving forward?
