Heat Wave to Bring Fire Danger to Local Mountains

By Jessica E. Davis

A heat wave with near record temperatures is expected to increase fire danger later this week in the mountains around Malibu.

A high pressure system will move into the area between Wednesday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to reach from the low 90s to over the century mark by Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Fire danger will also be on the rise, forecasters warned.

The heat is likely to last through the Fourth of July holiday, but Malibu will get a reprieve because of a marine layer. Temperatures are slated to reach the upper 70s.
