Free CPR Lessons in the Valley Tuesday

Free "Sidewalk" CPR lessons will be offered by the Los Angeles County Fire Department in the Valley and throughout Los Angeles Tuesday.

Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters will teach free "hands-only" CPR lessons Tuesday in the Valley and throughout the county during Sidewalk CPR Day.

The simplified CPR technique which firefighters often call a "lay person's CPR," emphasizes basic chest compressions at a rate of 100 per minute and drops the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation part of CPR.
Officials said that anyone can quickly master the technique and Tuesday's free lessons will take less than 10 minutes working with a trained firefighter or lifeguard.

According to the American Heart Association, which is promoting the simplified technique, CPR can more than double a person's chances of survival and is simple enough for a child to learn.
