5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 8

Agoura Hills turns 28 today.

  1. Happy 28th anniversary, Agoura Hills! In 1982, residents voted in favor of cityhood by a 68 percent majority, making Agoura Hills the 83rd city in Los Angeles County. Elected to the first City Council were Mayor Fran Pavley, Mayor Pro Tem Carol Sahm, Councilmembers Ernest Dynda, John Hood and Vicky Leary. Check back for our Q&As with some of the city's biggest leaders and About Town's "."
  2. Agoura High's fall play, You Can't Take It With You, opens at 7 p.m. and runs until Saturday. The show relates the humorous encounter between a conservative family and the crazy household of Grandpa Martin Vanderhof. Critics have admired the witty one-liners, the visual theatricalism, and the balanced construction of the play's three acts. I'll weigh in for Music Notes, my new column, on Thursday.
  3. also meets at 7 p.m. at to adopt Council norms, approve a request for landscape and oak tree proposals, as well as receive and file the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the year.
  4. If neither of those options float your boat,  screens classics at 7:30 p.m. as part of its weekly series. For only $8, catch A Christmas Story. Insomniac's synopsis: Ralphie is a young boy growing up in the 1940's who dreams of owning a Red Ryder BB gun. He is determined to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that this is the perfect Christmas gift. Along the way, he runs into opposition from everyone, including Santa Claus, as he pleads his case for the perfect present.
  5. Las Virgenes Muncipal Water District is preparing plans for a new water line in Agoura Road. As part of this design phase, Blois Construction will be locating the underground utilities (or potholing) along Agoura Road, between Reyes Adobe Road and Cornell Road. Please note there will be lane closures during the project. Drivers should observe all traffic control and construction zone speed limits.
