Blog Post: Agoura High School Girls Water Polo Team Secures CIF Semifinal Spot

Agoura High School Varsity girls water polo team Saturday afternoon pulled off a one point win, 8-7, over El Toro High School in CIF Division 2 quarterfinals at Cal Lutheran University, earning a spot in the semifinals against Corona-Santiago on Wednesday at the William Wollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

Agoura ruled the pool 8-4 by the third quarter, but allowed three El Toro goals within the final ten minutes of play, bringing the score uncomfortably close to all-tied-up territory. A potentially game-changing save by goalie Sierra Barton, however, stopped El Toro's momentum with under two minutes of play remaining, and the Chargers were able to hang on to their lead. Barton racked up six saves in the game.

Team effort was at play, and is reflected in the stats. Standouts Megan Linder, India Forster and Whitney Stane scored two goals apiece, while Emily Smith and Aley Vilches each scored a goal. Vilches also produced two assists and two steals. Kristi McGee contributed with an assist and two steals, while Stane and Barton each delivered two steals for the team.

A Charger win against Corona-Santiago on Wednesday will advance the team to Saturday's, Feb. 25th, CIF finals, which will also be played at Irvine's Woolett Center at 3:20 p.m

2001 and 2007 CIF title winners, the Agoura High School Chargers are looking to collect another crown this season and join the boys team as dual CIF champions. Both the boys and girls teams took home top trophies in 2007.

All Agoura High School girls water polo teams went undefeated this season, and the Varsity team has 98 straight league game wins to their record. The program this season also earned its eighth consecutive Marmonte League championship.

Congratulations Chargers, and best of luck on Wednesday!

What an amazing run! These young women have worked really hard and have learned so much from being involved in a high school team sport. Keep up the good work and best of luck on Saturday.

Thanks for your support, Illece. This program brings such tremendous pride, accomplishment and value to these young women's lives - and to the wider community, as well. Several of these hard-working student athletes have already signed with prestigious universities! Agoura High School and its acclaimed aquatics program is just one of the many reasons LVUSD has earned such an excellent reputation.
