Where's That Sculpture?

Do you know where in town this photo was taken?

The city currently features roughly 40 art pieces located all over town. Have you noticed them when you're out and about? These unique works of art constitute the city’s Art in Public Places program, according to Amy Brink, the director of community services, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some are bronze, others metal and a handful are in stone, but they are all weather resistant, because, predominantly, the art pieces are outside for all to see. Each week, we'll post a photo of one of these art pieces, and have you tell us in the comment section where it's situated. No prizes; just fun trivia stuff and beautiful art to enjoy. So, here's this week sculpture. Do you know where it is?

A High School 'Who Done It'

The community is invited to attend Agoura High's annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater production May 18 and 19.

Fresh on the heals of the Agoura High School spring musical Little Shop of Horrors comes A Killer Title, the school's Murder Mystery Dinner Theater production. Written by junior Jazmine Choi, the play is directed by senior Matt Oster. The play opens with an aging screenwriter, his well-dressed wife, and his flirtatious leading lady exiting the theater where our lead has just witnessed his most recent production as a grand flop. The leading lady is comforting our writer, while the wife is annoyed and is anxiously, perhaps too anxiously, waiting for their driver to take them to their cabin in Big Bear, where the remainder of our mystery is set.  The hilarious cast of characters that arrive at the cabin varies from loony mother-in-law, …

What's Playing at the Regency?

Review: 'Chimpanzee'

See this and find yourself uttering, "Oh, how sweet!"

I knew that sooner or later, I’d see a movie with REAL animals and think to myself, “Wow! What wonderful CGI’s or animatronics.” Blame it on years of seeing films such as Planet of the Apes, Aliens, Men in Black, to name just a few. We’ve all been bombarded for so long by the artifice of films that reality comes as a sharp slap to the mind. One of the pleasures of the new documentary Chimpanzee is to remind us that no matter how far visual technology has come since the dawn of the computer age, there ‘aint nothing like the real thing, baby.  Although probably equally suited to home viewing with the kids, the film is gorgeously shot in the rain forests of the Ivory Coast, although Gabon and Uganda are listed in the credits as well. Take …

Review: 'The Hunger Games'

The kids are all right in this satisfying blockbuster–at least for now.

The other night, PBS ran a fascinating documentary about Margaret Mitchell, who most of you may recall, authored a mega-blockbuster novel that turned into the top box movie hit of all time: Gone With the Wind. It was interesting to learn that Ms. Mitchell had to move out of her home to avoid the hundreds of phone calls she was receiving asking whether Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler would ever get back together again.  In other words, “what happens” after 'The End' appears on screen?  Viewers of The Hunger Games, currently breaking all records wherever it’s being screened, need have no such fears. The film almost screams “sequel” long before the credits roll. As its 140 minutes running time plays out, we start to ask ourselves, “What will…
