Once again, Patch comes to the rescue to help you find the perfect gift.

Each Thursday, we feature Patch Picks, highlighting editors' and readers' top picks for great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more. On the agenda this week? Father's Day gifts.

Father's Day is right around the corner. After talking to some local dads and getting some advice from friends, I've come up with the top gifting ideas for the man of the house.

 1. Fire up the grill

Barbecue season is getting into full swing, and we know how much Dad loves to braise the perfect steak. Why not help him out with the latest tools and supplies from . Get creative by making a basket. Throw in some grilling tools, coals and matches. Make it extra special by adding in some of his favorite meats. Think tri-tip, sausages and hamburgers. Costco has a great selection at great prices this time of year.

2. Spirits

This was a popular recommendation by a couple of fathers out there. (Don't worry, I won't name names). At the end of a long day, many dads like to unwind with a cocktail. Surprise him by getting his favorite bottle of something nice. Think Grey Goose vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin or Johnny Walker Blue Label. Head to or for your selection.

3. Golf

Golf-related gifts are always a popular request. It's a great time for Dad to enjoy the outdoors and hang with friends. For a family outing, take Dad miniature golfing. When was the last time you did that? Or just for Dad, visit . There you can get the latest clubs, golf balls and clothing, or sign up for some lessons. You can also visit as another option for lessons or a gift certificate.

4. Batter up!

Living outside Los Angeles, we often become spoiled by all the amazing sports teams to which we have access. It's baseball season, so why not enjoy a day at the ball park? Surprise Dad with some tickets to a Dodgers or Angels baseball game. This could be a family activity (who can say no to a Dodger dog?) or a fun outing for some of his guy friends. There are many sites online to buy tickets like Barry's Tickets or Stubhub, but check the Dodgers and Angels websites first.

5. Shop 'til he drops

Encourage Dad to splurge on himself. If he is looking for some new running shoes, take him to or get a gift card. Does he need some casual wear, shoes or workout gear? Try finding something at . For guys who don't know what they want, help them out by getting a gift card to TJ Maxx or one of the many options to be found at the gift-card stations at or
