I’ve been going to the Whizin’s Center since I was little kid and have always admired the unique architecture. But with its new-and-improved makeover, the Whizin’s Market Square is bound to impress shoppers with its eco-friendly materials and an innovative structure built to highlight skylights and greenery, according to Bill Tucker, owner and managing member of the Tucker Investment Group.

The first phase of construction began this past January on the Atrium building and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. Hugo’s restaurant is the newest addition to the space and will also open up at the end of the month.

Tucker gave Patch a tour of the renovation in progress and explained that he tried to be true to the historic significance of the center.

“The wood support beams in the building are wood members that have recently been sand blasted down to bring out the natural wood that at one time existed. Originally, there was a roof-covered dormer which we converted into to skylights to create a bright, well-lit environment,” he said.

All the wood has been replaced on the second level flooring, reclaimed wood that is all recycled from Howard Hughes Aircraft Company shipping pallets, said Tucker, who added that the new design is a Certified Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) and is focused on recycled material and renewable sources.

Tucker explained that six out of the twenty-two units have already been rented and each space has been designed with its own, unique character.

This is very exciting for Agoura Hills. The use of recycled material and renewable sources is an outstanding example of what we want in our city. The Whizen's Market Square, part of Agoura Hills' history, will bring visitors and residents alike to our city. Remember, Agoura Hills receives 1% of taxable sales and currently nearly 25% of our city's general fund budget is derived from sales tax. When you buy local it's a win win for our local businesses and our city.
