Singing in four-part harmony in front of Ralph's supermarket, members of the Agoura Hills Harmony Chorus entertained passersby on Saturday morning . The group, part of Sweet Adelines International, was out to elicit new members as well as attention to their 2011 Casino Night & Raffle.

"We're here to let everyone know about our fabulous fundraiser being held on June 25th, " said Kathy Berk, a baritone section leader. "It's going to be a really fun night."

The event will be held at the St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, where the chorus rehearses every Tuesday night. "If you sign up before May 31, you'll be entered into two drawings to win $500 gift cards," she said, enthusiastically.

The chorus is also offering six lessons and a picnic performance this summer for a cost of $15. "No prior singing or performing experience is necessary," said Berk.

Berk, a 13-year member, wants to invite members of the community to join the all-women barbershop group, because "it's a wonderful performance opportunity as well as a chance to make some lasting friendships."

The Agoura chorus currently has 55 members and competes annually in Bakersfield along with 15 other choruses from the region. "Last year we came in fourth," said Berk.

Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance, according to the organization web site.

Tricia Horton, an 8-year member, joined to learn to sing better and never left. "I love the people and have so much fun," she said.

"My mother made me join," said Phyllis Pleet, now singing for 30 years. "She is also still singing baritone at 87."

Tina Rowly just received her 30 year pin. "I'm a third generation barbershop," she said.

Agoura Hills Harmony is currently planning their next big performance for Christmas time.
