She's Ready For Her Close-Up

Agoura High's Melanie Abramhoff, 16, has her star on the rise.

Each week, Agoura Hills Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.

This week's Whiz Kid is 16-year-old, seasoned actress Melanie Abramoff. Abramoff has been acting since the tender age of six. This multifaceted actress has appeared in commercials, on stage, in films, and on television.

Abramoff’s first film appearance was with Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon in the Sony film Dead Birds, when Melanie was eight.  Abramhoff has also appeared on the small screen in Two and a Half Men and Joey. This summer she'll be seen in the John C. Reilly film, Terri, which opens in July.

When she was 12, Abramoff performed in a two week trial run of a new musical from MGM based on the movie Mermaids.  She portrayed ‘Kate’ (the part played by Christina Ricci in the film version). MGM never took the musical to Broadway, but Abramoff said she had a great time with the professional cast and performing in front of large audiences.

Abramoff just finished a community theater production of the musical Ragtime, in which she played the part of Evelyn Nesbitt, the notorious vaudeville singer whose husband was tried and acquitted of murder. Abramoff said she especially loved working at Woodland Hills Community Church alongside a talented cast of high school students from Agoura, Calabasas and the rest of the valley.

In addition, Abramoff serves on the Nordstrom’s bp Fashion Board (a fashion and retail education program) and is a Girl Scout working toward her Gold Award.
