Many rumors have been making the rounds about Ladyface Mountain lately, including plans for a monumental statue on the summit and a gondola or bullet train that would visitors to the top. We've done a little digging, and Agoura Hills Patch is finally going to get it straight.

The History

Legends say the name "Ladyface" originated when the Chumash Indians used the mountain as a perch to view the entire valley. The Chumash said the topography of the mountain looking like a lady looking to the skies, awaiting the return of her lover. In the early 1900s, this icon of the Santa Monica Mountains became a popular stop for travelers who refreshed themselves in the natural spring at the foot of the mountain. Today, a weathered American flag marks the summit of the mountain, waving proudly over the city.

What's Really Happening?

In a nutshell... nothing.  Mutterings of statues and gondolas are false and were a result of a well played April Fools' joke in the Acorn newspaper.

What is true is that the City Council is considering amendments to Ladyface Mountain's land use restrictions. Up for discussion are new, more easily accessible hiking trails, renovation of those already in existence and incorporation of new parking lots.
