Late Astronaut's Wife Visits Husband's Namesake School

Rona Ramon, widow of astronaut Ilan Ramon, visits Ilan Ramon Day School to meet with students and faculty to celebrate the school's recent renaming.

Rona Ramon, widow of Col. Ilan Ramon, made a visit to Southern California from Israel to celebrate the of in Agoura.

Col. Ramon was the first Israeli astronaut to fly into space. He served as the payload specialist on the fatal mission of America’s space shuttle Columbia where he and six other crew members were killed during re-entry.

The first event celebrating her visit was a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunday, March 25, co-hosted by The 1939 Club, an organization of Holocaust survivors and their descendants, and Ilan Ramon Day School.

On Monday, March 26th, Ramon visited the Agoura campus at which she was the guest of honor. At the all-school assembly, the students announced to the crowd how they are living the legacy of the late astronaut. 

One by one students shared how they embody the specific attributes of a modern-day Jewish hero. Ramon's visit to campus included morning prayers, singing, Israeli dancing, classroom tours, a more in-depth look at the school’s dedicated math/science lab, technology lab, shopping in the student-run Israeli Shuk and the dedication of the garden appropriately named Gan Ilan.
