Jinky's Kanan Cafe

The Craving's Emily Capretta profiles her restaurant pick for the week.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Agoura Hills Patch picks a great restaurant either in a town or nearby that is worth checking out.

This week's choice opened on Monday next to the new  on Canwood Road:

Overview: If you are a fan of anything breakfast then you are in luck. The newest restaurant to Agoura Hills serves breakfast all day long. With dozens of omelette, waffle and French toast combinations, there is bound to be something you will fall in love with. Not feeling breakfast? The expansive menu also features big portions of salads, pizza and pasta. This is a family friendly restaurant that has so many options, you will need a couple minutes to browse the menu your first time. I took about 10. No lie.

Decor: There are standard tables and chairs inside and out for diners, with a giant fireplace for those looking to get warm. The feel is upscale diner, with even the option to sit at a low-perched bar. Depending on where you sit, you have a view of the kitchen, which is always fun.

Drinks: From cappuccinos ($2.99) and lattes ($3.50) to fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice ($2.50), they have quite the selection. For coffee lovers, try their ice blended ($3.50 regular) in mocha, vanilla or chocolate. If you like iced tea, try the tropical or green ($2.50). For something different, order the blended lemonade freeze ($3.99) in raspberry, orange, or fresh mint. Very refreshing!

Appetizers: This is often my favorite part of the meal. Lovers of the aquatic life and anything fried, look no further. Try their Fried Calamari ($8.99), Popcorn Shrimp ($8.99), or Spicy Crab Cakes ($8.99). Jinky's appetizers are great for sharing. My favorite? The Vegetarian Potstickers ($6.99) are sure to be a crowd pleaser along with the Amazing Chicken Wings ($7.99). Start with a cup ($5.50) of their soup of the day.

Breakfast: This is the most important meal of the day and boy do they have it covered. For the house specialties, try the Desperado ($10.99), which is for the ultimate breakfast burrito fans. The Santa Fe Scramble ($10.99), full of flavor—cilantro, dice green onions, and salsa fresca—is the perfect morning pick-me-up. The Crab Cake Benedict ($10.99) is a spin on the original served with homemade hollandaise. With Valentine's Day next week bring the kiddies for Red Velvet Pancakes ($10.99). Yes, these are delicious, scrumptious and did I say delicious?

Jinky's offers 15 different signature pancakes to choose from, including Bananas Foster Cakes ($9.99). Their Pumpkin Pancakes ($9.99) are inventive and yummy. As for French toast, try the Coconut Flaky ($10.99) with strawberries and blueberries. And then there's the waffles. The Ice Cream Waffle ($10.99) has been a favorite of mine since I was little, so I was so excited to see it officially on the menu. Of course they have six other creations like the Banana Chip Waffle ($9.99).

Chili: With more than 20 different chilis to chose from, this deserved its own section. Their gourmet chilis ($6.95 cup, $9.50 bowl), "made with love," are topped with cheddar, cheese, onion, and sour cream and served with garlic bread. They are ranked on a hot scale of 1-10, so you know what you are getting into. Feeling dangerous? Try the Devilo, ranked a 10, made with six of the world's hottest peppers. Not looking for anything too crazy? Try the Chili Verde made with tomatillos, white beans and chicken. Order the Club Sampler ($9.95) and choose four chilis to taste.

Entrees: From sandwiches and big salads to pizza and pasta, they have it all. Try the Pesto Chicken Ciabatta ($10.99)—a house favorite, or the Steak Fajita Sandwich ($11.99).  You can't go wrong with the Classic Hamburger ($9.99) or the Chicken Parmesean Ciabatta ($10.99). All burgers and sandwiches are served with a choice of crinkle cut fries or a mixed green salad. For vegetarian diners, they have a great selection of options like the Grilled Veggie Sandwich ($9.99) or the Caprese Sandwich ($10.99).

With more than 15 salads to chose from, it is hard to go wrong. The Spicy Voodoo Steak Salad ($12.99) is amazing. Sauteed vegetables and grilled steak with a spicy sauce lay over a bed of green. The Sherman Oaks Delight ($9.99) is one of their most popular with grilled asparagus, carmelized walnuts, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, mandarin oranges and grapes, topped with goat cheese in a spring mix. Add chicken for $1 or shrimp for $3.

If you are super hungry, chow down on the Jinky's 12oz Steak ($18.99) with sundried tomatoes, asparagus, and two sides. The Mexicali Fajitas ($12.99) come sizzling with corn or flour tortillas. Feeling fishy? Try the Talapia Veracrus ($15.99), Shrimp Scampi ($16.99), or Bangkok Fish Curry ($15.99).

Sides: My personal favorite? Their tater tots ($4.50) are served hot and crispy. Craving something light for breakfast? Get a side of bacon ($3.50), Jinky potatoes ($3.50), or a muffin ($2.25). They also have curried chicken ($5.99) or tuna salad ($5.99). For my diners who love the fryer, you are in luck. Try their sweet potato fries ($4.50) or onion rings ($4.50).

Desserts: The house specialty is the flaky banana caramel creme ($7.95)—fresh banana grilled over honey nut flakes on vanilla ice cream with toppings galore. Their decadent chocolate cake ($6.50) will make a chocolate lover's heart beat as it is rich chocolate cake with chocolate chips. What is a trip to a cafe without a slice of pie? Choose from apple or pecan ($5.95) and top it with vanilla ice cream.

Service: The waitstaff here is the epitome of service, almost too good. Everyone was super friendly and always coming to make sure we were doing ok. Since it is a new restaurant, they are more than willing to give their favorites and help narrow your decision. Your glass will never be empty as they make sure you drink is full to the brim.
