Injured Worker Airlifted to UCLA

The ditch in which the workman was digging collapsed on him, fire officials said.

 

A workman digging a ditch on Canwood Road at Derry Avenue Monday afternoon suffered injuries when the dirt and cement around him collapsed, pinning him down, according to a fire official at the Los Angeles County Fire Station 65.

The 47-year-old man, who's name has not been released, was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center due to the nature of his injuries, said Capt. Lance Nielson.

"He said he was in excruciating pain," said firefighter/paramedic Ben Russell, who was on the scene.

According to Nielsen, the call came in to the station Monday just after 2:15 p.m. A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter landed in nearby Chumash Park.
