Independence Day in a Parking Lot

A handful of patrons gather in Ladyface Alehouse's parking lot to celebrate Bastille Day.

Edith Piaf resonated from the parking lot of Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie on Wednesday as local servers dashed around balancing trays that held glasses filled to the brim. It was all the sound of a worldwide tradition breaking ground in Agoura Hills.
Like a scene from the streets of Paris, Ladyface hosted its first city-wide waiters race. About 10 restaurant servers lined up at the brasserie at 5 p.m. The goal: race through the Kanan Village parking lot without spilling a drop.
Three servers from Islands Fine Dining & Drinks next door competed in the twentieth-century race, along with Ladyface's own hostess Rachel Kaufman and runner Cary Jensen, who took first prize.
Ladyface was perhaps the only place in town celebrating French Independence Day with themed food and ale on July 14. Culinary specials for the day included Vichyçoise, a thick cold soup, and a new ale sorbet. Attendees dressed in red, white, and blue, and sang the "La Marseillaise," France's national anthem.
The event drew both locals and Agoura Hills' neighbors from the south.
