Agoura Hills Man Competes in 12th Straight L.A. Triathlon

Richard Crater, 53, dives into swimming-biking-running competition that stretched from Venice Beach to Olvera Street.

Agoura Hills resident Richard Crater competed in his 12th straight Los Angeles Triathlon on Sunday. Crater, 53, has shown no signs of slowing down. He is one of 14 local triathletes who has never missed an L.A. Triathlon since it began in 2000.

Starting out in Venice Beach, Crater swam 0.9 miles in the ocean, then stripped off his wetsuit and jumped on his bike to cycle 24.8 miles to downtown Los Angeles, where he then ran 6.2 miles, finishing at Olvera Street.

Crater placed 25/36 in his division and 400/548 out of all males. His swim time was 48:42, his bike time was 1:12:12 and his run time was 58:11 for a total of 3:07:39.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

  • The Agoura Varsity Girls volleyball squad traveled to Moorpark Thursday to battle the Musketeeers. The Chargers fell short in three games 25-19, 25-21, 25-18. They will look to rebound from this loss and notch their first victory in league on Tuesday when they travel to Calabasas to battle the Coyotes at 6 p.m.

GIRLS GOLF

  • The Agoura Varsity Girls golf team battled the Highlanders of Royal Thursday at Simi Hills Golf Course. The Chargers put forth a galliant effort but fell short 253-239. The Chargers will next battle the Warriors of Westlake, the Lancers of Thousand Oaks and the Pioneers of Simi Valley on Monday at Westlake Golf Course.

GIRLS TENNIS

  • The Agoura Varsity Girls tennis team added another victory to their record with a 16-2 win over the Musketeers of Moorpark on Thursday. The Chargers swept its doubles matches and only relinquished two singles matches. The Chargers had strong play contributed by Nicki Zisman, who battled through illness before having to retire while winning 5-4. The Chargers will next travel to Calabasas on Tuesday to face the Coyotes.

BOYS WATER POLO

  • The Agoura Varsity Boys water polo squad traveled to San Diego Friday to compete in the annual Coronado Invitational. Thirty-two competitive teams were invited and Agoura didn't disappoint. The Chargers battled Fallbrook of San Diego in its first game and prevailed 14-4. In their second game, they defeated the Grizzlies of Los Osos 16-7. The Grizzlies are ranked third in CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) division four. The Chargers defeated Cathedral Catholic 11-9 in its third game and advanced to the semi-finals. Agoura lost a close one in the semi-finals to Vista of San Diego 9-8 and later redeemed themselves in the third place game, beating the Carlsbad Lancers 17-9. 
  • Throughout the five games played, Adam Abdulhamid led the team with 26 goals and seven steals and was named to the All-Tournament first team. Danny McClintick had 14 goals and was named to the All-Tournament second team. Jon Lai also contributed with nine goals of his own. Agoura now moves to 3-0 in league and 10-2 overall. The Chargers will next face the Highlanders of Royal Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

FOOTBALL

  • The Agoura Chargers football squad traveled to Simi Valley Friday to battle the Pioneers. With hopes to notch its first league victory of the season, the Chargers came up short, losing 35-0. The Chargers are battling numerous injuries and now slide to 0-2 in league and 0-3 overall.

CROSS COUNTRY

  • The Varsity Boys and Girls cross country team hopes to attain victory when they host the Simi Valley Pioneers Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Chargers are coming off a strong showing at Woodbridge and hope to continue success locally.
