A Parade in The Name of Liberty

Hundreds of spirited Liberty Canyon residents celebrate their second annual parade in July fourth fashion.

Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty, and a young man in a stars-and-stripes Speedo were among the attendees at the Second Annual Liberty Canyon Fourth of July Parade on Sunday morning.

Hundreds of spirited Agoura Hills residents gathered at W. Country Glenn and Liberty Canyon Roads beginning around 10 a.m. to join local Sheena Stephen's hometown pageant in its second year. The brigade of themed vehicles and red, white and blue residents traveled south on Liberty Canyon Road, east on Park Vista, and north on Patrick Henry Place.

Stephens helmed Agoura Hills' one and only Fourth of July parade last year. The event drew nearly 70 participants.

"I told my kids that we might be the only ones who showed up and we would just walk around our neighborhood with our bikes and that would be fine," said Stephens. "We couldn't believe it the next morning. There were even people on horseback and one girl brought a pet chicken in an Uncle Sam costume."

While there were no costumed poultry or mounted revelers, the 2010 parade generated more than double the attendees from last year.
